Text Book Centre Book Club – A Year and Counting
Finding a good book club is not a walk in the park. This is because a good book club has some special and great qualities that most fail to deliver. Before going any further lets first understand the meaning of a book club, according to Wikipedia ‘A book club is a group of people who meet to discuss a book or books that they have read and express their opinions, likes, dislikes, etc’.Book lovers always have that urge of sharing their thoughts with other people about the book; hence the idea of a book club came about.
Text Book Centre Book Club started in 2016 and not to brag but it has been pretty successful. This is due to some of the qualities that every book club must have. According to Canadian Living, a good book club must have some of the following qualities:
- Agree on a fixed meeting cycle/time
- Respect your fellow members
- Be on time
- Give everyone a chance to speak
Our book club ensures everything is set in time, everyone’s opinion is respected, and everyone gets a chance to speak and much more. What happens in our book club is every month we read the selected book in the past we’ve been reading African Authors. We meet on every second Saturday of every month to discuss the book. We meet at Kenya National Theatre from 10 am to noon. What makes our book club better than others is consistency; we never missed a month or disappoint our members. The book club is always fun, being hosted by only one facilitator and sometimes the members get to meet the author of the book either physically or via Skype.
The list below is for the books we’ve discussed since the beginning of the book club:
Joining our book club is free and the members are always updated through our social media pages Facebook ,Twitter and Book club group on Facebook which is for members only.
